Garlic has been dubbed The Stinking Rose, yet it is actually a member of the lily family and a cousin to onions, leeks, chives, and shallots. It is a root crop, with the bulb growing underground.
Now that we’ve learned from our last post that garlic has many uses and benefits. Let’s try to incorporate more of it in our lives. Try this recipe using your Solar Flare Parabolic Solar Cooker. It’s easy and delicious!
1-4 garlic bulbs or heads
Peel away the outer layers of the garlic bulb skin, leaving the skins of the individual cloves intact. Using a knife, cut off 1/4 to a 1/2 inch of the top of cloves, exposing the individual cloves of garlic. Place the bulb of garlic on a piece of foil large enough to wrap the garlic in. Drizzle or brush a little olive oil and sprinkle salt over each garlic bulb then wrap the garlic bulb well with foil. Place each bulb into the cooking vessel. Place the lid on the cooking vessel and bake for about 1- ½ hours or until the garlic is tender and can be removed by squeezing the individual cloves out of the roasted paper outers. They should come out easily. Arrange on a plate and serve with bread or add to a dish where garlic is needed.
Tip: It is recommended to check the cooking vessel about 45 minutes or 1 hour into the cooking process. If there is condensation in the bag check the food. Let cooking vessel rest 2-3 minutes, then open jar and stir contents to check if done. If more time is needed, cook for an additional 10 -20 minutes then check again.
Cook Time: 1 hour 30 minutes – 2 hours (depending on bulb size)
